Welcome to The Renaissance Singers of Eastbourne

It is with very great sadness that we announce the death of our beloved conductor, Shirley Barrell, who passed away on February 25th.

Shirley was an inspirational leader with a deep passion for music, boundless energy and enthusiasm and an unfailing sense of humour.
She believed that music is a gift to be shared and enjoyed by all and was unfailingly generous in the time and effort she put into bringing this about.

We feel so privileged to have had Shirley as our conductor and friend and we mourn her loss.

We are deeply grateful to Paul Collins, a singer with Renaissance for many years, Director of Music at St Saviour’s Church, Eastbourne, and a dear friend of Shirley’s for agreeing to take on the role of Conductor for the programme of concerts this year.

In recognition of Shirley’s life, there will be a Service of Celebration at St Saviour’s Church, Eastbourne, on March 14th at 11.45 am.

The Renaissance Singers are among the leading small choirs in Sussex.

We sing throughout the county to entertain and support fund-raising for a wide range of good causes from church organ funds to overseas humanitarian charities.

Our repertoire spans the centuries and includes madrigals, motets, folk songs, chant and plainsong.

Most of our singing is unaccompanied full harmony but we do include accompanied items from time to time.
